COVID UPDATE - PRESS RELEASE
July 16, 2020
LOCAL AREA FALL SHOW 2020 INFO:
For immediate release: July 16, 2020
The Fall 2020 antiques show has been rescheduled to Oct. 15-Nov. 1. Show organizers, vendors and landowners have been in close communication with county and city officials; the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management will monitor the ever-evolving situation closely for any future actions to be taken.
The action is aimed at positioning the event for safety and success – and potentially reducing the likelihood it will be canceled.
Local officials, including the county judge, mayors and community leaders are aware of the amount of planning and effort it takes to organize each show. In light of the spring show being canceled, the extra attention this fall is aimed at achieving a safe environment should the event take place. All will work closely with local, regional and state public health experts to evaluate the data and the capability of local healthcare providers.
With a long-standing history, each show venue is individually owned and operated – and sets its own open and close dates in the spring and fall. In a spirit of collaboration, venues have agreed to adopt enhanced health standards for their individual shows to include mandatory masks for shoppers and dealers when social distancing cannot be achieved; shopping set up to ease the ability to remain socially distant; capacity limits according to state standards at the time; and enhanced hand-sanitizing facilities.
“We believe, with the support of local venues and our year-round businesses, we can create a safe and health-focused shopping atmosphere,” says Barry Bone, Town of Round Top mayor. “We appreciate the keen attention our antiques show promoters are contributing to ensure their dealers and customers are aware of the expectations for safety and to enjoy the 52nd edition of this world-famous event. In addition, the average temperature drops about 8 degrees F from the first of October to the end.”
The show itself stretches 20-plus miles, largely along State Highway 237 in Fayette County. The majority of the venues are in open-air buildings and barns and temporary tents. Venues with enclosed areas will have enhanced procedures to provide for healthy shopping and dining.

“This is very special and significant celebration for us,” said Susan Franks, owner, The Original Round Top Antiques Fair. “From our dealers, some of whom have been with the show since the beginning, to our continually increasing number of customers who have embraced us, we are proud of The Original Round Top Antiques Fair’s rich history and future.”
The show’s roots originated in October 1968 when show promoter Emma Lee Turney launched the Round Top Antiques Fair at the Round Top Rifle Hall. In 2005, Susan Franks purchased from Turney what became The Original Round Top Antiques Fair. During the 13 years that Franks has owned the show, offerings expanded from early American country to include European antiques and an eclectic mix of authentic items that shoppers are unable to find elsewhere. The Original Round Top Antiques Fair is situated in three venues on the same property: The Big Red Barn; The Annex, and The Continental Tent.
“This show’s foundation was built on quality antiques and I remain true to those roots,” said Franks.

Fall 2014 Press Release
A Fresh Approach...
A FRESH Approach…Even after 47 years of TRADITION~
“Often imitated, never duplicated”…The ORIGINAL Round Top Antiques Fair started 47 years ago this Fall. It started the phenomena we know and love today. It is amazing how the show has grown, how styles, dealers and customers have come and gone, yet it remains lively and fresh year after year. Show owners Susan and Bo Franks have accomplished this by blending youthful and seasoned veteran vendors - all with great quality merchandise brought to the marketplace.
When people say the “BIG RED BARN”, some get the impression it could be “out of your price range”…but this is not the case. For 47 years, the owners have taken pride in bringing quality antiques in all price points and multiple arrays of styles. Take time to discuss your price points with the vendors, you will be surprised how much information they are willing to pass along to you. Not everyone can start out buying expensive antiques for their homes or collections, but no matter what your price point may be, this show has quality items for everyone’s taste.
Where do the Franks see Round Top going in the next 47 years? “We only see it getting better as we educate our younger clientele on quality and knowledge of antiques.” As we step forward into the future, we realize the importance of bringing forth young and fresh ideas that appeal to a wide group of buyers, brought by vendors who have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to spread the word of how fantastic this business really is. Our vendors keep up with current trends and can help marry those items with traditional ones to create a style that is uniquely yours.
“Perhaps the thing we are most proud of and which sets us apart from other events in Round Top is that we are recognized as being one of the best antique shows in the nation. Shoppers will find only genuine antique and vintage pieces at all four of our locations. That is something we maintain with certainty.”
It’s easy to see the 47-year-old Original Round Top Antiques Fair going on far into the future. With the history and tradition of highlighting superior quality dealers who sell excellent antiques and who pride themselves in helping customers to blend the historic with the newest style trends, the Original Round Top Antiques Fair can look forward to many successful years.
This Fall’s Original Round Top Antiques Fair’s Big Red Barn Event Center will feature 4 venues, including:
The Big Red Barn -Perhaps the most well-known and highly touted of the show’s four venues is The Big Red Barn which has become a landmark for those traveling on Highway 237. This 30,000 square foot, air-conditioned facility is Round Top’s premier spot to find excellent early American and early Texan antiques, gorgeous silver and art, rare books, clocks, furniture, textiles, china & pottery, and much much more. We have something for everyone! If you are looking for that “Just Right” piece or accessory we are sure you could find it here! Unique & one-of-a-kind, that is our specialty.
The Continental Tent -Also located at the Event Center. This large air conditioned tent will take your breath away upon opening the doors. The booths are set up in showroom settings featuring dealers from all over the World who specialize in bringing you magnificent antique furniture and accessories from the entire Continent. Whether your taste is Italian, French, English or something in between, you will likely find it in the Continental Tent. Big or small, our dealers at this and all the other venues are prepared to discuss the provenance of each piece they sell. Our dealers take time to educate new customers so these timeless items can be brought into your home and used with sophistication and style.
The Big Red Barn Tent - Located at the Event Center. Dealers here feature unique art, mid-century modern, vintage pieces of all shape and size, interesting antiques and much more. Vintage is the wave of the future and we throw a little repurposed vintage in as well. It’s a fun place to check out unusual decorative items. Join the dealers in this venue for pieces that bring back great memories. Allow us to show you how these items can bring that mix of eclectic style to your decor.
Our hidden jewel, Carmine Dance Hall -Not to be forgotten, a short drive from the Big Red Barn Event Center takes the shopper to historic Carmine Dance Hall. The variety of antiques include linens, jewelry, fine silver and fabulous small accessories all of great quality. The venue is filled with veteran dealers who choose this venue to be their favorite and take pride in the feeling of what “Round Top” used to be. It’s a slower pace, a smaller venue where the dealers can take time to visit with their customers and allow the customers to enjoy some real Texas Hospitality. You will find a full array of Antiques and Vintage in this venue brought to you in a charming setting of an old Texas Dance Hall.
There’s plenty of FREE PARKING, Shippers ON-SITE, and a choice of excellent lunch fare, including delectable baked goods, may be found at the heart of the Big Red Barn Event Center, and award-winning barbecue and home-baked desserts draws many folks to the Carmine Dance Hall for lunch.
Admission is $10 for all 4 locations, all 4 days of the show.
